Under 17 Country Carnival- Raymond Terrace-- The under 17 Southern Zone team contested the Under 17 Country Carnival at Raymond Terrace over the weekend. The second match had the Southern boys pitted against North Coastal who batted first and scored 9/231 off their 50 overs. Nathaneal Jones 3/60, Matt Panecasio 4/57, Adam Ison and Michael Labb took one wicket each. Some tight bowling from North Coastal saw Southern being dismissed for 128 with Hayden Church scoring 32, Zac Moran 29 and Michael Labb being not out on 13. The last game was against a strong Newcastle outfit, they scored 5/331 with Bailey McGill scoring a well compiled 145. Southern wicket takers were Matt Panecasio 2/60, whilst Michael Labb, Keiran Gilly and Adam Ison all took one wicket. Alex Debs scored 42 and Adam Ison 20 in the chase of a score that proved far too many.
Following the carnival the NSW Country team was selected. Nathaneal Jones was selected as a bowler, his effort over the three days and pace were rewarded by the NSW Country selectors. Congratulations to Nathaneal and good luck to him as he will play two games against NSW city at Bowral on Sunday 10th and Monday 11th of November at Bradman Oval. There were several Southern boys in contention but a lack of consistency throughout the three days cost the boys a place in the team.
|Burns Cup 2013||updated October 26, 2013|
Burns cup round 1
Shoalhaven are host to the Burns cup this year and while there was some good batting performances bowlers appeared to be on top.
South Coast won the toss and batted at Bernie Regan Oval and Tyrone Thomas bowled with good pace and accuracy to finish with 2 for 14 from 9 overs. Matt Corbertt got amongst the wicket with 3 for 35 from 8 overs. Tom Williams finished with 2 for 17 from 3 overs.
South Coast were all out for 151 in the 43 over. Brendan White top scored with 44 while Kieran Gray finished with 33.
South East appeared to stick to a plan, if they bat 50 overs out they would win. Some tight bowling by Gerard Healey, Jess O'Hare and Eric Davies had the South East team under pressure and were none for 21 after 14 overs. Ben Mitchell and Matt O'Brien then teamed up to bo...wl 20 between them and when finished the sting had gone out of the south East batting attack. They were 7 for 82 after 40 overs, Matt taking 4 for 31 from 10 overs.
South East are an improving team. The bowling attack looks good and with a bit of improvement in the batting they could cause some upsets in the future. Shoalhaven played Goulburn highlands at Bomaderry Oval, winning the toss and batting the Goulburn Highlands lads put a reasonable target of 10/220 for the Shoalhaven lads to chase. Steve McNaught 70 which included 10 fours was well supported by Ben Hamilton (wk) 65 no and Mitch Wright 49 including 9 fours and 1 six. Shoalhaven top order was soon in trouble being 7 for 89 before Scott Fagurland 55 including 2 sixes and 6 fours and Jordan Mathews 36 looked like they could bring the home team home.
Some smart bowling changes and a change of pace saw the Shoalhaven team fold being all out for 154 giving the Goulburn highlands team a place in the final against south coast on Sunday 27th October at Berry Sporting complex.
Shoalhaven will take on South East in the Southern Zone shield at the Nowra Show ground
All games start at 10.30am.
The selectors will meet at the conclusion of the 2 matches to select the Southern Zone country Championship side to compete in Orange in 2 weeks.
Good luck and fair play.
